Flicka Amazing Grace

In Flicka Friends
The newsletter knows this boat only as Esperanza; it is the registry that links that name to Amazing Grace. Under the earlier name — a white-hulled 1987 Pacific Seacraft Flicka, hull #338 — she was kept by Jill and Steve Geary at Dana Point, California. She was one of ten Flickas that gathered at Isthmus Cove on Santa Catalina Island for the 1997 rendezvous, reported by Jill Geary in Flicka Friends #12 (Spring 1998), and her name appears twice in that weekend's prize list, among the Youngest Flicka and Best Maintained Flicka awards.
Flicka Friends #16 (Spring 1999) carried a short note setting the record straight after the sale: Jill Geary had written the previous spring to say she had sold the boat, and the new owners were Phil and Trudy Cunningham, who were busy with a few improvements, among them replacing twelve-year-old brown canvas with new dark green Sunbrella. The note adds that the photograph of her in the previous issue had also been credited to Jill Geary; #16 printed another, showing her anchored near Dana Point. The Gearys went on to buy a second, older Flicka, Shiloh.
